Polarkreis 18 are six guys from Dresden / Germany, who, at the age of 13, founded the group in 1998. Felix Räuber (vocals/guitar/piano), Philipp Makolies (guitar/piano), Silvester Wenzel (piano/electronic), Uwe Pasora (bass), Christian Grochau (drums), and Ludwig Bauer (piano/guitar/electronic) combine driven drums, atmospheric electronic sounds and plucked guitar strings with an extraordinary, male voice to form mellow pop melodies, the emotional effect of the songs being the most important objective of their music.
The Colour of Snow, Tourist, Happy Go Lucky, Dreamdancer, Under this big moon are some of the band's most known songs, but Allein Allein is the hit-single that turned Polarkreis in this year's chart revelation.
Polarkreis 18 went through a number of stylistic changes and formats before settling on a name and the notion that a ‘live' band was still viable. The band released a free fivetrack download EP in 2004, followed by their first album, Look, in 2005. In 2006, Polarkreis 18 finished second at a music competition which helped them score a record deal and get their first ‘official' album „Polarkreis 18” released in 2007. February 2008 found the group securing an opening slot on the Smashing Pumpkins' tour of Germany, while 2009 saw Polarkreis 18 as an opening act for Depeche Mode's Tour of the Universe shows in Leipzig and Berlin, The Killers' show in Hamburg.
