The daughter of a Nigerian man and a Romanian woman, Ayo. will perform for the first time in Bucharest, at B`ESTFEST, on July 2nd! Being considered a true revelation of soul music, Ayo. is Patrice`s wife, both having a son, Nile - who also gave the name of one of his father`s albums.
Ayo. raised within a family with a great passion for music, discovering from her very childhood the impressive collection of vynils her father had. She rapidly got along with soul, reggae and folk rhythms, that a bit later were going to seriously mark her musical style, an unmistakable global-acoustic-soul. Ayo. had her debut in 2006 with the “Joyful” album (the English translation of her name), the entire album being recorded live in the studio in just a few days! Ayo.`s first single, “Down On My Knees”, had an incredible success, the international media exalting her effervescent style and her splendid voice, all reminding of the famous Tracy Chapman.
The album has been awarded with various golden and platinum discs for record sales, Ayo. being also nominated for “The best year`s soloist woman” category at Victoires de la Musique awards, in 2007. The audience was impressed by her live performings, Ayo reaching a new record with no less than five successive sold-out concerts at the Olympia Hall in Paris! Various shows followed in Europe and the USA, as well as her second album, released in March 2008, “Gravity at Last”, with “a heavier and more mature” sound”, as Ayo. herself stated in an interview. This year, the Romanian audience will have the chance to see Ayo. in a live concert, for the first time in her mother`s native country, at B`ESTFEST, on July 2nd!
