For a long period of time, The Charlatans have been considered genuine pioneers of the Madchester style, a mix of psychedelic rock with indie and dance sonorities. The band`s five members, Rob Collins (keyboard), Jon Baker (guitar), Martin Blunt (bass guitar), Jon Brookes (drums) and Tim Burgess (vocal), forcely stroke in the early 90s and their first hits, “The Only One I Know”, “Then” or “Over Rising” have become true symbols for the musical style they brought up. Once they released their self-titled album in 1995, The Charlatans came back on stage with a brand new sound enriched with brit-pop influences, very popular at that time, but also with dance and underground techno elements, all depositing on their already consecrated style. Some changes followed then in the band`s formula, as well as six studio albums, the most recent one, “You cross my path”, having been released in May 2008. The album is the 10th material in the band`s career, but also the most appreciated one, being considered by the fans a genuine masterpiece.
Having performed live and remarkably at international festivals such as Glastonbury, Coahella, Benicassim, Oxegen, T in the Park, Reading & Leeds or Isle of Wight, The Charlatans impressed Mick Jagger & Co., who chose them as opening act at the Rolling Stones concert in 2007, in Bucharest. This year, The Charlatans come back to Romania for a new live show, on July 4th, at B`ESTFEST! Besides the shows already scheduled for the new 2009 tour, The Charlatans will also actively get involved into choosing the acts that are going to perform at Isle of Wight festival.
